PC, laptop sales down 19 per cent in the third quarter
The sale of desktop computers and laptops dropped by 19 per cent in the third quarter, the last three months of 2008. It is the impact of the global slowdown on Indian market. The Manufacturers Association for Information Technology (MAIT) on Monday announced its quarterly industry performance review. According to the association the 1.4 million units of desktop computers and notebooks were sold in the third quarter.
The sale indicates a decline of 19 per cent. The consumption of servers fell 49 per cent in the third quarter, with only 21,000 units being sold. The association expects that the sale may increase in January-March this fiscal year.
